Support the Campaign for Portable Long Service Leave

The Victorian Government wants to introduce a Portable Long Service Leave Scheme. However Community Sector Organisations are opposed to it. A Portable Long Service Leave Scheme is crucial if we are to begin to address the overwhelming recruitment and retention issues in the Non-Government Sector.

Email message (your name will be added to the bottom) Dear Premier John Brumby and Hon. Lisa Neville, I write to you to express my support for the Victorian Government's proposed Portable Long Service Leave Scheme for Community Sector Organisations. CSOs provide a wide range of services that dramatically improve the lives of Victoria's most vulnerable citizens. The sector is in crisis because of poor recruitment and retention. A Portable Long Service Leave Scheme would provide significant incentive for people like myself working in the community sector to remain in the sector. Currently, people working equivalent jobs in the government sector earn between 17% and 30% more than employees in the non-government sector. Therefore any additional incentive to stay in the sector will dramatically improve retention and the skills and experience of employees will not be lost due to high turnover rates the way they currently are. The government already funds CSOs for employee's wages and entitlements, including long service leave. Unless a Portable Long Service Leave Scheme is implemented, this money will continue to be hoarded by CSOs.
