HACSU has long argued that a Portable Long Service Leave Scheme (PLSL) scheme is critical component of any strategy to improve employee retention rates in the Non Government Disability (NGO) Disability Sector. After many years of lobbying the State Government to establish a PLSL scheme, success is nearing reality.
The State Government has now moved establish a Portable Long Service Leave (PLSL) scheme for the broader community services sector which will include NGO Disability Service Employers, meaning that if implemented disability staff will be able to move between NGO employers and transfer and build up their long service leave entitlements. The DHS has now established stakeholder consultation forums in metro and regional areas to discuss the proposed scheme. The purpose of the forums is to provide information about the proposed PLSL scheme and enable stakeholders/staff to discuss the various issues and raise questions. Information gathered will be used to inform the development of the scheme. Video conferencing will be available at the Melbourne meetings referred to below for any persons who wish to participate but are unable to attend the meeting venues. Arrangements can be made for local DHS offices to provide hook-ups. A discussion paper outlining the proposed PLSL scheme has been be published on the CSIF website at http://www.dhs.vic.gov.au/pdpd/csif/whats_new.htm We encourage HACSU members to participate in these meetings.
