Who Can Join HACSU

HACSU is a specialised union, covering very specific fields of work. If you work in any occupation in psychiatric services, intellectual disability services or alcohol and drug services in Victoria you are eligible to join HACSU.

What jobs do HACSU members do?

HACSU members work in a variety of service settings and are employed in a range of occupational classifications, including tertiary qualified and certificated nurses, health professionals, disability service workers, program and support workers, trades and administration.

HACSU covers workers in the public and private sectors as well as those employed by non-government/non-profit organisations.

Where do HACSU members work?

HACSU members work in very large residential services and in small community-based residential and non-residential services, and support people in need of mental health services, disability services and alcohol and drug services generally.

Examples of these workplaces are:

  • psychiatric units and clinics in the community or attached to general hospitals;
  • hospitals, community care units and community residential services for people with a psychiatric disability;
  • child and adolescent psychiatric services;
  • community treatment and support teams for people with a psychiatric disability;
  • community residential services and community teams for clients with an intellectual disability;
  • training and residential centres for clients with an intellectual disability;
  • forensic services for people who have a psychiatric disability or are intellectually disabled;
  • residential and community based alcohol and drug treatment and rehabilitation services.

So, if you are working in any of these jobs or workplaces, get on board. HACSU members have won the conditions you enjoy. And HACSU members, right now, are working towards building on these conditions and further improving the services for clients.
